EIF Commits up to €30 Million to Nordic Foodtech VC Fund

The European Investment Fund (EIF) has committed up to €30 million to Helsinki-based Nordic Foodtech VC’s (NFT.VC) second fund, NFT.VC Fund II. This commitment is intended to bolster financing for early-stage agrifood technology companies across Europe, with a particular emphasis on Northern Europe.

The fund is targeting a total size of €80 million and plans to invest in approximately 30 pre-seed and seed-stage companies. These companies are developing technologies for agriculture, food, health, aquaculture, and broader biosolutions. NFT.VC Fund II reached its first closing of €40 million in April 2025, and the EIF's commitment is expected to help attract further private investors, bringing the fund closer to its target.

EIB Group Vice-President Karl Nehammer stated that Europe possesses strong research in food and agriculture but requires more capital and expertise to commercialise technologies from laboratories. Nordic Foodtech VC co-founder Mika Kukkurainen noted that the support will enable the investor to expand its reach throughout Northern Europe.

Supported by InvestEU, the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund, and EIB Risk Capital Resources, the investment aims to bridge the financing gap between research and market. It is expected to contribute to climate action, environmental sustainability, food resilience, and European competitiveness by fostering innovation in the agrifood sector.
