Eight Sleep CEO Built $1.5 Billion Business by Redefining Sleep

Eight Sleep CEO Matteo Franceschetti has built a $1.5 billion business by transforming how people sleep. The company, which manufactures no mattresses and employs no foam experts, focuses on developing technology to enhance sleep quality.

Franceschetti founded the company out of frustration with the lack of innovation in traditional mattresses. He contends that much of the mattress industry uses the same foam materials and significantly overprices its products. Eight Sleep's solution is its "Pod" mattress topper, placed atop an existing mattress, which automatically adjusts temperature and offers other features to optimize sleep.

"We don't have foam experts because we don't handle foam and we don't care about foam," Franceschetti stated. "You can buy any mattress you like, cheaper or more expensive. It’s your call. You put our product on top of that, and you will finally get better sleep."

In March 2026, Eight Sleep raised $50 million in new funding at a $1.5 billion valuation. The company recently launched its new Pod 6 model, starting at $1,999, a notable reduction from previous models' entry prices.
