Eintracht Frankfurt is mourning the loss of its former goalkeeper, Peter Kunter, who passed away at the age of 82. The club confirmed his death on Monday, citing family information that he died after a short, severe illness.

Kunter was a prominent figure for Eintracht Frankfurt, serving as the team's goalkeeper for eleven years between 1965 and 1976. Despite his relatively small stature for a goalkeeper at 1.76 meters, he achieved significant success, including winning the DFB-Pokal twice, in 1974 and 1975. He amassed 287 competitive appearances for the club, holding the record for most games played by an Eintracht goalkeeper for many years.

Prior to his move to Frankfurt, Kunter played for Freiburger SC for four years in the second division. His performances also caught the attention of the national team, as he was included in the extended squad for the 1972 European Championship, though he never earned an international cap.

Beyond his football career, Kunter pursued higher education, studying German studies and sports before completing a degree in dentistry. He earned his doctorate from Goethe University in Frankfurt in 1969 while still an active player, earning him the nickname "the flying dentist." After retiring from professional football, he opened a dental practice in Frankfurt.

Kunter maintained a strong connection to Eintracht Frankfurt after his playing days, serving as the club's vice president from 1977 to 1979. The club expressed its condolences, stating, "Eintracht is losing a loyal companion and an important representative of the club with Dr. Peter Kunter. Our sympathies go out to his family."
