ELECOM Reissues Katoki Hajime-Designed MAPP Mice from 2002
Japanese manufacturer ELECOM is reissuing two MAPP series mice designed by Hajime Katoki, 24 years after their original launch. This follows the recent reissue of Masamune Shirow's collaborative model.
Japanese hardware manufacturer ELECOM has announced the reissue of its MAPP (Mechanical Designer Accelerated Peripheral) series mice, originally designed by Hajime Katoki. These models were first released in 2002 as part of a collaboration that included acclaimed manga artist Masamune Shirow and mechanical designer Hajime Katoki.
The reissue of the Katoki Hajime version comes shortly after the recent release of a reissued Masamune Shirow model. Hobby Japan magazine, a partner in the collaboration, confirmed the upcoming relaunch of the Katoki Hajime mice locally on July 24.
The original Katoki Hajime-designed mouse featured a more symmetrical shape compared to the Shirow version, while maintaining a futuristic and robust aesthetic characteristic of the era. The MAPP series aimed to combine high-level design with ergonomic computing peripherals.
In addition to the Katoki Hajime reissue, ELECOM has also introduced a red variant of the reissued Masamune Shirow mouse, offering collectors and enthusiasts more options. The decision to bring back these distinctive mice reflects their lasting appeal and design significance.
