Electric Air Taxis Begin Test Flights in Texas Program
A new federal program to test electric and autonomous aircraft has launched in Texas. Three companies are participating in flight tests before the technology's regulations are finalized.

A new federal program designed to test the feasibility of electric, hybrid-electric, and autonomous aircraft commenced today in Texas. The initiative moves forward even as the regulatory framework for this emerging technology is still under development.
Earlier this year, the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Advanced Air Mobility and Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) selected eight state-led projects to serve as early public testbeds for these new aircraft. The Texas project marks the first of these selected initiatives to begin.
Over the next week, three eVTOL companies โ Joby, Beta, and Wisk โ will conduct test flights. These demonstrations aim to showcase potential routes and gather crucial data on safety and operational efficiency. The collected information will be vital for the FAA in establishing necessary flight safety standards and operational procedures.
