Kia Deutschland GmbH is shedding light on a key performance characteristic of electric vehicles (EVs): their instant torque. Torque, a measure of rotational force, is immediately available in EVs, unlike in internal combustion engine (ICE) cars where it builds with engine speed.

While ICE vehicles produce torque through the complex motion of pistons and require a transmission to deliver power to the wheels, with torque increasing alongside RPM, electric motors generate maximum torque from 0 RPM. This direct-to-wheel power transfer, facilitated by the absence of a traditional gearbox, allows EVs to accelerate instantaneously.

This instant torque translates into several driving advantages. Chief among them is superior acceleration, crucial for tasks like overtaking or merging onto highways.
