Electric vehicle startup Slate opens first showroom in Chicago
Slate has opened its inaugural customer experience center in Chicago's Fulton Market District as it moves toward the production of its $24,950 electric pickup truck.

Slate, an electric vehicle startup, has launched its first physical showroom in Chicago. The facility, situated in the Fulton Market District, occupies a former Tesla retail location and is staffed by several former Tesla employees. The space serves as a hub for prospective buyers to view prototypes, evaluate customization options, and place $300 pre-orders for the company's forthcoming truck.
The company’s primary product is a utilitarian electric pickup truck priced at $24,950. The vehicle features a minimalist interior, mechanical window cranks, and exterior panels constructed from plastic, reflecting a focus on simplicity and low production costs. Slate estimates a range of 205 miles per charge for the base model.
By positioning itself in a high-traffic urban district, Slate aims to bridge the gap between digital-first direct-to-consumer sales and traditional automotive retail. As the company nears production, the showroom provides a tangible touchpoint for consumers in a market currently dominated by established legacy automakers and premium electric vehicle manufacturers.
