Electronic Arts (EA) has announced the completion of its acquisition by a private investor consortium, making Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) the company's largest shareholder. The deal takes EA private after 36 years as a publicly traded company.

EA confirmed in September 2025 its acceptance of an offer from a consortium that includes Saudi Arabia's PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The transaction valued EA at approximately $55 billion.

Following the acquisition's conclusion, PIF holds a 93.4% stake in EA. Silver Lake, a U.S.-based private equity firm, owns 5.5%, and Affinity Partners, founded by Jared Kushner, holds the remaining 1.1%. A significant portion of Affinity Partners' funding originates from the Saudi government.

The PIF has substantial investments in the gaming sector, including stakes in companies like Take-Two and SNK. These investments are part of Saudi Arabia's broader strategy to diversify its economy away from oil dependence. However, these financial moves have drawn scrutiny due to Saudi Arabia's human rights record.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson stated that the company is entering a new chapter with strong momentum. Representatives from EA's Maxis studio, developers of The Sims series, have affirmed that their company values will remain unchanged despite the ownership transition.
