Electronic Arts Halts Development of Sims Project to Reallocate Resources
Electronic Arts has suspended development of the unannounced Sims project known as 'Project Lotus' to focus resources on 'Project Evergreen'.
Electronic Arts (EA) has officially paused the development of 'Project Lotus', an unannounced title within the Sims franchise. The company confirmed the decision as part of a broader organizational restructuring, which also includes the closure of the BioWare studio.
The redirection of resources aims to support the development of 'Project Evergreen', another project within the same franchise. Management indicated that this move provides the Evergreen team with additional time to realize the game's original scope. EA has not provided details on whether any assets or technology developed for Project Lotus will be integrated into future titles.
This strategic shift follows the completion of EA’s $55 billion acquisition by a consortium including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners in August 2026. The restructuring is framed under a new corporate focus on core franchises, expansion, and business model transformation. Further details regarding the company’s path forward are expected to be shared at a global staff meeting scheduled for November.
