Eli Lilly Breaks Ground on New Pharmaceutical Ingredient Facility in Houston

Eli Lilly and Company has commenced construction on a new manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas, which will produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for medicines, including Foundayo (orforglipron). The new site is intended to bolster the company's domestic supply chain.

This Houston facility represents the tenth new U.S. manufacturing location announced by Lilly since 2020. The expansion aligns with broader industry and governmental efforts to increase domestic pharmaceutical production and reduce reliance on international supply chains.

The facility is projected to create over 600 jobs in the Houston area, described as high-wage positions. To support workforce development, Lilly is contributing $12.5 million towards building a talent pipeline and a workforce training center in partnership with local organizations.

While specific timelines for completion and the commencement of operations have not been disclosed, the establishment of this facility underscores Lilly's ongoing investment in expanding its U.S. manufacturing footprint. The strategic location in Houston was reportedly chosen for its available workforce and logistical advantages.
