Elma Schmidbauer sought new ERP system for diverse operations
Global player Elma Schmidbauer, active in plant engineering, serial manufacturing, and chemical production, has selected a new ERP system. The old system was outdated and overly customized.

Elma Schmidbauer, a global company specializing in plant engineering, serial manufacturing, and chemical production, has implemented a new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. The decision to upgrade stemmed from the limitations of their previous system, which had become outdated due to extensive customizations, hindering updates and impacting process transparency.
The selection process, initiated in 2015, involved forming a core team of eight individuals. With assistance from external consultants at Trovarit, the company meticulously defined its requirements. This led to an initial shortlist of 20 potential ERP providers.
Through a rigorous evaluation process utilizing scoring models and cost estimations, the shortlist was narrowed down to four candidates. These companies were invited to present tailored solutions, and reference customer visits were conducted to assess real-world performance. The process culminated in two finalists before the core team made the final selection.
Key requirements for the new system centered on its ability to manage complex order processes across all three business areas—plant engineering (project-based), serial manufacturing, and chemical production (previously handled manually). From an IT perspective, reliability, low maintenance, and high availability were critical factors.
