Elon Musk, among the world's wealthiest individuals, has emerged as the largest known donor in the current midterm elections, having contributed over $276 million since July to support Republican congressional majorities.
The financial contributions, initially reported by The New York Times and confirmed by a spokesperson for Musk's super PAC, include $158 million directed to the Senate Leadership Fund, a primary PAC supporting Republican Senate candidates. This donation ranks among the largest political contributions in U.S. history.
An additional $76 million was allocated to America PAC, a super PAC associated with Musk, which has deployed a significant voter turnout operation. Musk also provided $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, supporting the Republican nominee for Senate in Texas.
This level of political spending represents a shift from Musk's statements in May of last year, where he indicated plans to reduce future political financial engagement. Despite the substantial funding, Musk has maintained a lower public profile compared to previous election cycles.
