Elon Musk Promises to Distribute SpaceX Shares to US Children
Elon Musk has announced plans to give one SpaceX share to every child in the United States starting next year. The total value of these shares is estimated at $10.5 billion.

Elon Musk has stated his intention to distribute one SpaceX share to every child residing in the United States, commencing next year. If realized, this initiative would see Musk donating shares valued at approximately $10.5 billion, based on an estimated 72 million children in the US as of July 2025.
Musk, who also leads Tesla, communicated his plan on X, formerly Twitter, describing it as "the first of many" such initiatives. This announcement follows reports that SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell had planned to distribute SpaceX stock to two million "Trump Accounts," tax-advantaged investment accounts for American children.
The specific mechanics and feasibility of this large-scale share distribution remain undetermined. SpaceX is a privately held company, and transferring ownership of shares to numerous minors would necessitate intricate legal and logistical arrangements. The company has not yet provided further details regarding the process or how recipients will be identified and allocated their shares.
While Musk has a history of ambitious public declarations and projects, this particular plan to distribute company equity directly to children represents a novel form of his philanthropic engagement tied to his business ventures.
