Elon Musk settles lawsuit over $1 million voter draw

Elon Musk has agreed to settle a lawsuit alleging fraud in his promised $1 million daily draw for registered voters. The settlement addresses claims that the draw was not random.

Elon Musk has settled a lawsuit filed by two Arizona residents who accused him of fraud over his promised $1 million daily draw for registered voters. The lawsuit, filed in Austin, Texas, challenged the legitimacy of the promotion, which Musk had announced for 2024.

The plaintiffs alleged that Musk falsely claimed the prize money would be randomly distributed. A representative for Musk's "America PAC" reportedly stated during a hearing that the winners were "not randomly selected," contradicting Musk's public statements. This admission suggested that winners were pre-determined.

According to the lawsuit, participants were required to sign petitions to enter the draw. The plaintiffs argued they would not have signed these petitions if they had known the selection process was not random. They accused Musk and America PAC of using the draw as a scheme to collect user data.

The settlement details have not been publicly disclosed. The case also faced scrutiny from a district attorney in Philadelphia, who had filed a lawsuit seeking to halt the draw, alleging it operated as an illegal lottery. This settlement aims to resolve the claims of fraud and non-random selection.
