The Boring Company, Elon Musk's venture focused on tunnel construction, is in discussions to raise a new round of funding, which could value the company at around $20 billion. This latest funding effort reportedly aims to secure approximately $4 billion, though the deal is not yet finalized and terms may change.

Founded in 2016 and spun off from SpaceX, The Boring Company aims to reduce the cost of underground transportation infrastructure through its tunneling technology. The company currently operates the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, a system where passengers travel via Tesla vehicles through underground tunnels connecting the convention center and surrounding areas.

The company last raised funds in 2022, securing $675 million at a valuation of roughly $5.7 billion, with investors like Vy Capital, Sequoia Capital, and Founders Fund participating. Despite some proposed projects in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles not moving forward, private market investors reportedly remain attracted to Musk-affiliated companies, willing to pay a premium valuation.

Despite mixed results on some projects, The Boring Company continues to advance its underground transit initiatives. The company is currently constructing a self-funded Loop tunnel in Nashville, Tennessee. Additionally, in February, The Boring Company announced plans for a new underground transit system in Dubai, with initial phases costing an estimated $154 million.
