Elsevier Foundation and The Lancet Announce Winners of Evidence to Impact Awards

The Elsevier Foundation, in partnership with The Lancet, has announced the recipients of the inaugural Evidence to Impact Awards. These awards recognize research teams that have successfully translated health research into tangible improvements in healthcare delivery for underserved populations.

The initiative aims to address the complex global health challenges, such as rising rates of non-communicable and infectious diseases and disparities in healthcare access. By highlighting the work of these teams, the awards underscore the importance of implementation science – the process of applying research findings to practical, context-specific strategies that can drive systemic change.

Winning teams were selected by a scientific jury based on four key criteria: demonstrated community need, meaningful co-design with community partners, clear implementation strategies and outcomes, and a focus on long-term sustainability. Each winning team receives a $10,000 award to further support their impactful work.

One of the recognized teams, "Implementing Essential Emergency and Critical Care in Tanzania" (EECCiT), has significantly improved the quality of emergency and critical care in Tanzanian hospitals. Led by Associate Professor Tim Baker, the program has trained over 1,000 healthcare providers, increasing care coverage and leading to a reported 31% reduction in inpatient mortality across implementing facilities. The project is designed for sustainability through integration into the national health information system.
