Embolx Obtains New G-Code for Pressure-Generating Catheter Procedures in Physician Offices

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Medical technology company Embolx announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has established a new HCPCS Level II code, G0577, for procedures using its Sniper® catheter. This code, effective July 1, 2026, covers pressure-generating catheter procedures performed in physician offices, also known as office-based labs (OBLs).

Embolx spearheaded the effort to obtain the new code for OBL procedures utilizing the Sniper Balloon Occlusion Microcatheter, working closely with CMS for over a year. The company believes this new reimbursement pathway will improve patient access to cost-effective embolization treatments.

"We are grateful to CMS for their collaboration and the support from our physician advisors, reimbursement consultants, and staff throughout this process," stated Embolx CEO Michael Allen. "This new code expands access to pressure-generating catheters to a lower-cost site of service where patients receive high-quality care."

The new code reflects a broader trend toward performing interventional oncology procedures in office-based settings. Physicians report that the combination of lower costs and streamlined logistics benefits patients without compromising care quality.

"I congratulate Embolx on their efforts to expand essential care to the Office-Based Lab setting," said Dr. Aaron Fischman of Mount Sinai. "We have used the Sniper microcatheter for years due to its consistent improvement in patient outcomes. The introduction of the new G-code, G0577, is a significant milestone supporting the delivery of high-quality interventional oncology care."
