Employees Prefer Remote Work as King Charles Returns to Office

Following the completion of a significant renovation at Buckingham Palace, King Charles III has announced he will continue to work from the royal residence. However, broader employee preferences are shifting away from traditional office-centric work.

EzCater's "2026 Future of Workplace Experience" report reveals that six in ten U.S. workers favor a hybrid model, with 32 percent preferring fully remote work. Only nine percent expressed a desire to return to the office full-time.

The report highlights that without clear incentives or reasons for returning to an in-office setting, employees are 27 percent more likely to seek employment at companies offering more flexible work arrangements.

Gallup data shows approximately 60 percent of job seekers prefer a hybrid model. Younger generations, in particular, are increasingly disinclined to consider companies that do not offer remote or hybrid work as a key aspect of employment.
