Encompass Health to Open First Small-Format Hospital in Texas

Encompass Health is expanding its inpatient rehabilitation capacity in Montgomery County, Texas, with two new projects planned for the greater Houston area. The company will open its first small-format inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Conroe and construct a replacement hospital for its existing facility in The Woodlands.

The new 24-bed Conroe hospital will operate as a satellite of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of The Woodlands, aiming to bring specialized care closer to patients in Conroe and surrounding communities. Expected to open in late 2027, this smaller facility represents a new development model for the company, designed to complement its traditional hospitals and serve growing areas.

Additionally, Encompass Health plans to build a new 60-bed replacement hospital on the current Woodlands campus. This modern facility will feature all private patient rooms and enhanced amenities to support recovery. Construction is planned to avoid interrupting services at the existing hospital. The replacement hospital is anticipated to open in 2029.

Both hospitals will serve patients recovering from strokes, neurological conditions, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, and complex orthopedic issues. Patients will receive 24-hour nursing care along with physical, occupational, and speech therapy from a specialized, interdisciplinary team.
