Boston, MA – New clinical trial results for Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan), developed by AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo, demonstrate significant clinical activity in patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer who have developed brain metastases. The findings from the DESTINY-Breast12 trial were presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology.

The primary endpoint, progression-free survival (PFS) at 12 months, was met by 61.6% of patients with active or stable brain metastases. The central nervous system (CNS) specific 12-month PFS was 58.9%. Results were consistent for patients with both active and stable brain metastases.

Brain metastases are a common and challenging complication for patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer, with limited effective treatment options. These data further characterize the clinical benefit and safety profile of Enhertu in this patient population, potentially guiding future treatment decisions.

The safety profile of Enhertu observed in the DESTINY-Breast12 trial was consistent with previous breast cancer studies, and no new safety concerns were identified. The results reinforce Enhertu's potential role in managing brain metastases in this patient group.
