Envision deploys 800V DC power system for AI data centers

Envision has completed the deployment of an integrated 800-volt direct current (800V DC) power system at its Galaxy AI data center in Ulanqab, China. The system creates a direct power path from medium-voltage grid inputs to server racks, replacing traditional AC-based power architectures.

The installation integrates solid-state transformers (SST), battery energy storage, and an AI-driven controller known as the Dubhe Controller. By managing the power chain at 800V DC, the system reduces the volume of copper cabling required and improves conversion efficiency, allowing for higher compute density within the facility.

"AI data centers need power systems that coordinate renewable energy, energy storage, and the grid to meet computing demand," said Kevin Huang, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy. The system uses real-time data to adjust power distribution, compensating for the rapid load fluctuations inherent in AI workloads.

Operational since August 2026, the Galaxy facility is part of Envision's broader Mission Gobi project, which seeks to establish 5 gigawatts of green data center capacity in desert regions by 2030. The 3-gigawatt site is intended to serve as a reference for the industry's shift toward 800V DC infrastructure.
