Envision Energy Introduces EN-252/16.7 Offshore Wind Turbine

Envision Energy has introduced its next-generation EN-252/16.7 offshore wind turbine, engineered for high performance and reliability in high-wind environments. Unveiled in Hamburg, Germany, the turbine is tailored for international offshore wind markets.

The turbine boasts a rated power of 16.7 megawatts (MW), a high-performance rotor, and an integrated drivetrain. Envision states this design aims to deliver increased energy production, superior reliability, and enhanced project return on investment.

The EN-252/16.7 is built upon Envision's proven Model Z platform, which has over a decade of offshore wind development and operational experience. The international model features a rotor specifically designed for European markets. The turbine integrates vertically developed key components, advanced safety features, and grid connectivity capabilities, with lifecycle optimization managed by Envision's AI-driven Galileo system.

According to the company, the 16.7 MW turbine, with its substantial swept area, can increase annual energy production by 1-2% compared to current models. This could also allow for a reduction in the number of turbines by approximately 10%, potentially lowering the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) by 2-4%.

The turbine is engineered for safe and resilient operation in demanding marine conditions, including extreme wind speeds up to 58.5 m/s (average) and 82 m/s (gusts). It can integrate with energy storage systems to ensure power supply to critical components even when external grid power is unavailable.
