Envision Energy Launches New Offshore Wind Turbine
Envision Energy has introduced its new EN-252/16.7 offshore wind turbine, designed for high-wind environments. The turbine aims to increase energy production and enhance reliability for international markets.

Envision Energy has unveiled the EN-252/16.7, its next-generation offshore wind turbine developed for high-wind environments and tailored for international markets. The turbine features a rated power of 16.7 MW, a high-performance rotor, and an integrated powertrain, designed to increase energy production and reliability.
The new model builds upon Envision's existing Model Z platform, which has accumulated over a decade of operational experience in offshore wind. The company stated that the EN-252/16.7 is designed to deliver approximately 1-2% higher annual energy production for gigawatt-scale offshore wind farms. It also aims to reduce the number of turbines required by around 10%, potentially lowering the levelized cost of energy.
The turbine is engineered to withstand demanding offshore conditions, including extreme winds up to 58.5 m/s sustained and gusts of 82 m/s. It also incorporates Envision's AI-driven Galileo system for proactive maintenance and fault detection throughout the turbine's lifecycle.
Envision Energy highlighted that the design incorporates features for safety and resilience, including capabilities for grid-forming control and black-start functionality. The integration with energy storage systems is also a feature, providing backup power during grid outages or severe weather events.
