Envision Energy unveils new 16.7 MW offshore wind turbine
Envision Energy has launched the EN-252/16.7 offshore wind turbine. The new 16.7 MW turbine is designed for high-wind locations and is expected to improve energy generation and reliability.
Chinese green technology company Envision Energy has introduced its new EN-252/16.7 offshore wind turbine, specifically designed for high-wind locations and international offshore markets.
The new turbine features a rated capacity of 16.7 megawatts (MW) and is expected to enhance energy generation and project reliability. The company states the turbine builds upon their previous "Model Z" platform, leveraging over a decade of experience in offshore wind development and operation.
Envision Energy developed the turbine in collaboration with European entities. The company reports that the turbine integrates high electricity generation capacity, vertically integrated key components, advanced safety and grid connection features, and AI-driven lifecycle monitoring.
"The next phase of offshore wind energy is not simply about increasing the size of wind turbines. The real value of scaling lies in how effectively it translates into higher energy generation, greater reliability, and improved economics over the entire project lifecycle," said Christian Schrimpf, Executive Vice President for Offshore Wind Power at Envision Energy.
According to the company, the 16.7 MW turbine can increase annual energy production by 1–2% while reducing the number of turbines by approximately 10% compared to current models. This is projected to lead to an estimated 2–4% reduction in the levelized cost of energy (LCOE).
