Envision supplies green ammonia for world's first VLAC vessel
Envision has successfully supplied green ammonia to power the Terra Clove, the world's first Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC) equipped with a dual-fuel engine.

Technology firm Envision has delivered green ammonia to the Terra Clove, marking the first operational use of the substance to fuel a Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC). Owned by Eastern Pacific Shipping and built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, the vessel recently underwent a naming ceremony in South Korea.
The fuel was sourced from Envision’s Chifeng Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Industrial Park in Inner Mongolia. The facility, which holds ISO, RFNBO, and ISCC certifications, currently produces 320,000 tons of green ammonia annually, with plans to expand total capacity to 1.52 million tons.
Frank Yu, Senior Vice President at Envision Energy, stated that the delivery demonstrates that green ammonia is a scalable maritime fuel. This project builds on a prior commercial delivery in February 2026 to LOTTE Fine Chemical, which tested the logistics chain from renewable hydrogen synthesis to international maritime application.
Equipped with an ammonia dual-fuel propulsion system, the Terra Clove retains the flexibility to utilize conventional fuels. The integration of ammonia as a primary fuel source is intended to facilitate a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions across the vessel's operational lifecycle.
