Envision Tianji model leads AI weather forecasting competition

The Shanghai-based technology firm Envision announced that its weather foundation model, Tianji, achieved first place in the recent AI Weather Quest. Organized by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), the competition evaluates the performance of artificial intelligence in predicting meteorological patterns.

Envision’s Tianji model outperformed entries by integrating physical laws with machine learning data processing. The competition serves as a benchmark for how effectively AI can replicate or surpass traditional numerical weather prediction models, which have historically been computationally expensive and time-consuming.

As the energy and logistics sectors increasingly rely on precision meteorology for supply chain management and renewable energy generation, the development of physics-informed AI models has become a focal point of industry research. Envision intends to apply these forecasting capabilities to its existing grid management and energy optimization platforms.
