E.ON and BMW Launch V2G Charging in Germany

E.ON Energie Deutschland and BMW Group have launched Germany's first bidirectional Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) charging offering for electric vehicles. The new solution combines a BMW Wallbox with a specialized electricity tariff from E.ON, enabling the car's battery to also feed power back into the grid.

This bidirectional functionality not only allows electric cars to charge but also to supply electricity back to the household grid or directly to the main power grid. This helps balance the load on the electricity network and can provide economic benefits to owners by leveraging fluctuating electricity prices.

The offering is aimed at electric car owners looking to optimize their charging costs and actively participate in the energy transition. E.ON will manage the electricity supply and trading on the energy markets, while BMW provides the necessary charging equipment.

Following a pilot phase, BMW and E.ON have now made the bidirectional charging offering available to all customers in Germany. No details have yet been announced regarding potential expansion to other countries or specific pricing.
