Epic Games Launcher Preview Arrives on Linux, Fortnite to Follow

Epic Games has begun rolling out a preview release of its Epic Games Launcher for Linux operating systems. This move paves the way for the popular game Fortnite to become available on the platform in the future.

Historically, Fortnite's absence on Linux has been partly due to concerns over cheating. While Epic's Easy Anti-Cheat service is compatible with Linux, Fortnite itself has not been. In February 2022, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney cited a lack of confidence in combating large-scale cheating across diverse kernel configurations.

The new preview launcher provides Linux users with access to other Epic Games titles and promotions. The company aims to broaden its game library and user base by expanding to new operating systems.

While a specific release date for Fortnite on Linux has not yet been announced, Epic Games has indicated that work is underway. The full implementation is anticipated later this year.
