Epic Games Launches Faster Launcher Developed with AI
Epic Games has released a new version of its Epic Games Launcher, rebuilt from the ground up using AI for improved speed and responsiveness. The company aims to enhance its competitive edge against Steam.

Epic Games has introduced a new, AI-assisted version of its Epic Games Launcher, which the company states is significantly faster and more responsive than its predecessor. This development aims to bolster Epic's competitive position against Valve's Steam in the digital game storefront market.
Martin Keely, VP and General Manager of the Epic Games Store, confirmed that the new launcher was completely rewritten, utilizing AI as a tool for generating and reviewing code. Rather than updating the existing software, the team started from scratch with a new technology stack.
Keely indicated that leveraging AI for coding made the development process more efficient. This allowed a smaller team to rewrite the codebase and release the new launcher across platforms more rapidly. The objective was to replicate existing functionality but with a more optimized codebase.
The new Epic Games Launcher is designed for a quicker and smoother user experience. It currently supports Windows and Mac, with a Linux version planned. Epic Games has been competing with Steam through its own store since 2018.
