Epidemic Sound highlights direct licensing advantages over PremiumBeat

Music service Epidemic Sound has released a comparison with competitor PremiumBeat, owned by ShutterStock. Epidemic Sound's central claim is the significance of directly owning its music catalog. The company states that, unlike some entities, it manages the rights to all tracks in its catalog internally, eliminating the need to pay Performing Rights Organizations (PROs) for usage.

The comparison suggests that Epidemic Sound's model offers users a legally sound package that includes not only music but also AI-powered soundtrack tools, voiceovers, and other audio content. PremiumBeat, owned by ShutterStock, is noted to work with PROs, which could potentially lead to additional payments for users, even if the music is labeled royalty-free.

According to Epidemic Sound, its catalog contains over 55,000 tracks and more than 250,000 sound effects, with some created using AI tools in collaboration with professional voice artists. The company also emphasizes that its artists receive compensation through direct agreements, streaming splits, and participation in a bonus pool. PremiumBeat offers over 45,000 tracks and 16,000 sound effects but does not support voiceovers.

Epidemic Sound's direct licensing system aims to provide clearer and more predictable pricing for its users, marketing itself as a solution for content creators seeking a straightforward way to acquire music and sound effects without hidden fees or complex licensing agreements.
