Epiroc and Orica to develop automated explosives charging system
Mining equipment manufacturer Epiroc and explosives provider Orica are partnering to develop a semi-automated explosives delivery system for underground mines. The initiative aims to enhance safety and productivity.
Swedish company Epiroc and Australian firm Orica have entered a partnership to jointly develop a semi-automated system for delivering and charging explosives in underground mines. The new technology is intended to improve both safety and productivity in mining operations.
The development is driven by the increasing need to access deeper and more remote ore bodies, making automation a critical factor. The collaboration merges Epiroc's expertise in underground mining equipment with Orica's specialization in explosives and charging systems.
A prototype of the system is expected to be completed during 2020, with commercial versions anticipated to enter service in 2021. Both companies view the partnership as a significant step towards making mining operations safer and more cost-efficient.
Epiroc manufactures equipment such as drill rigs, while Orica is a global leader in commercial explosives and blasting systems. The joint effort aims to optimize the explosives charging process in challenging underground environments.
