Epiroc receives large order for autonomous, electric mining equipment in Africa

Swedish company Epiroc AB has announced a significant order for autonomous and electric surface mining equipment to be delivered to Africa. The contract comprises several Pit Viper 275 E blasthole drill rigs, which will operate using cable electric power and fully autonomously. This type of equipment is designed to enhance safety and productivity while producing zero exhaust emissions.

The order, valued at SEK 380 million, was booked in the first quarter of 2026. Deliveries of the equipment are scheduled to commence shortly and are expected to be completed by the end of 2027. Epiroc has been heavily investing in automation and electrification within the mining sector, and this transaction supports the company's strategy of providing increasingly sustainable and efficient solutions to its clients.

According to the company, the Pit Viper 275 E rigs are an electric variant of a widely used blasthole drill rig. The equipment's design integrates robustness with innovative features, making it suitable for rotary blasthole drilling operations. Epiroc aims to support the mining industry's transition towards more sustainable practices through technology and automation.

Epiroc serves as a global productivity partner for mining and infrastructure customers, supporting their transition toward a sustainable society. The company focuses on developing safe and efficient equipment, alongside offering services, automation, digitalization, and electrification solutions.
