Epiroc secures large equipment order for South African platinum mine

Epiroc AB has secured a substantial order for underground mining equipment from Sibanye-Stillwater, a major precious metals mining company. The equipment will be deployed at the Siphumelele shaft of Sibanye-Stillwater's platinum operations in Rustenburg, South Africa.

The order includes low-profile loaders and utility vehicles specifically designed for mining in narrow vein environments. Sibanye-Stillwater plans to utilize this new fleet as part of an ongoing project to mechanize the Siphumelele shaft operation, aiming to enhance both safety and productivity.

"We are proud to support the Siphumelele operation as it starts to use mechanized equipment," said Helena Hedblom, Epiroc's President and CEO. Sibanye-Stillwater indicated that the low-profile fleet is well-suited to the mining conditions at Siphumelele and will support the safe and efficient execution of this strategically important project.

The ordered equipment comprises LHD 5.5 LP low-profile loaders and UV42 utility vehicles, along with a range of interchangeable cassettes. These additions are part of Epiroc's strategy to expand its presence in critical support and service applications within underground mining. Deliveries are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026. The value of the order was not disclosed.
