EPO Grants Gradientech Patent for AST Technology

Swedish company Gradientech has received a patent from the European Patent Office (EPO) for its antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) technology. The patent, numbered 3019625, covers the company's method for determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of bacteria in a microfluidically controlled environment.

This invention is a key component of Gradientech's QuickMIC™ diagnostic system, which is under development for ultra-rapid AST. The system aims to significantly speed up the treatment of bacterial infections by providing faster results from microbiological samples.

As antibiotic resistance increases, the need for rapid and precise diagnostic tools becomes more critical. Gradientech's technology addresses this challenge by drastically reducing the time it takes to identify bacterial strains and assess their susceptibility to various antibiotics.

Securing this European patent strengthens Gradientech's position in the rapid diagnostics field and supports its ambitions to commercialize the QuickMIC™ system. The company is continuing its development efforts with the goal of bringing the system to market.
