EQT Group has launched a new strategy focused on constructing the physical infrastructure required for artificial intelligence (AI), intending to establish the foundation for the AI economy. This initiative targets substantial infrastructure investments driven by the exponential global growth of AI.

The strategy prioritizes the development of data centers and energy infrastructure. AI is projected to significantly increase the demand for computing power and energy consumption. Industry estimates suggest investments could reach up to $4 trillion over the next five years solely for data center and energy infrastructure worldwide. Power availability has emerged as a key bottleneck.

Through this new strategy, EQT aims to address the demand by leveraging its extensive expertise in digital and energy infrastructure. The strategy is fully seeded by EdgeConneX, a global data center developer and operator within EQT Infrastructure's portfolio. EQT's broad infrastructure platform manages over $100 billion in digital and energy assets, including over 100 gigawatts of energy capacity and 90 data centers.

Jan Vesely and Christoph Balzer are leading EQT AI Infrastructure globally. "Infrastructure is now the defining factor for AI’s continued expansion," stated Vesely. "Integrated solutions are needed across chips, data centers, energy, and connectivity. EQT’s infrastructure funds own the critical infrastructure needed for the accelerated deployment of AI."
