EQT Launches Transition Infrastructure Strategy with Acquisition
EQT Group has launched a new Transition Infrastructure strategy and acquired ju:niz Energy, a German developer and operator of battery energy storage systems.

Private equity firm EQT Group has launched its EQT Transition Infrastructure strategy, focusing on scaling businesses that facilitate the shift to clean energy and a more resource-efficient economy. The strategy's inaugural investment is the acquisition of ju:niz Energy, a German developer and operator of utility-scale battery energy storage systems.
The EQT Transition Infrastructure strategy will target investments in North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. It aims to leverage EQT's extensive experience in infrastructure, including over 15 years and more than EUR 17 billion invested in energy transition-related opportunities. The new strategy will complement EQT's existing infrastructure funds.
Based in Aschheim, Germany, ju:niz Energy develops, builds, and operates battery energy storage systems. The acquisition is expected to support ju:niz Energy's growth and its role in enhancing grid stability, particularly in Germany, a key European electricity market with expanding renewable capacity. The company aims to scale its development pipeline and increase its ownership of assets.
EQT stated that the strategy will provide capital, as well as industrial, technological, and sustainability expertise to support business scaling. The strategy will be led by Jan Vesely, Head of EQT Transition Infrastructure in New York, and Asis Echaniz, Head of EQT Transition Infrastructure Europe in Madrid. Francesco Starace, former CEO of Enel, serves as the Chair.
