EQT Private Equity Asia has acquired a majority stake in Guardian Shanghai Hygiene Service Ltd., the largest domestic pest control operator in China. The transaction was completed on March 17, 2022.

EQT intends to support Guardian's next growth phase by driving consolidation within China's highly fragmented pest control market. The investment will leverage EQT's expertise in digitalization and sustainability, aiming to enhance Guardian's digital infrastructure, service innovation, and online marketing strategies.
Founded in Shanghai in 2011 by Chuck Jiang, a former General Manager for Rentokil in China, Guardian has expanded through 14 bolt-on acquisitions. The company serves high-end commercial verticals, including restaurant chains, supermarkets, and airports.
The pest control market in China is bolstered by demographic trends such as increasing urbanization and a growing middle class, alongside government initiatives like "Healthy China 2030" promoting healthier lifestyles. EQT plans to integrate digital solutions, such as digital rodent traps, to reduce chemical usage and improve operational efficiency.
