Equinix appoints former Kyndryl executive to lead Malaysia operations

Digital infrastructure company Equinix announced on November 2, 2026, the appointment of Effendi Azmi Hashim as managing director for its Malaysia operations. Hashim joins the firm from IT services provider Kyndryl, where he previously served as managing director for both Malaysia and Indonesia.

Based in Kuala Lumpur, Hashim will oversee the company's regional strategy and operational growth. He replaces Cheam Tat Inn, who is retiring from his full-time leadership position with the firm.

Equinix has committed over US$700 million to its Malaysian operations, with plans to add 5,800 server cabinets by 2028. This expansion aligns with the rising regional demand for cloud services, though the local data center industry continues to face scrutiny regarding water usage and overall sustainability as it scales.
