EssilorLuxottica Enhances Myopia Management with New Lenses and Smart Glasses
EssilorLuxottica is expanding its myopia management platform with Essilor Stellest 2.0 lenses and new smart glasses. The solutions aim to slow the progression of myopia in children.
EssilorLuxottica has expanded its myopia management platform by introducing Essilor Stellest 2.0 lenses, smart glasses, and a new solution for pre-myopia intervention. The company announced these advancements at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.
The new Essilor Stellest 2.0 lenses are designed to significantly improve the slowing of axial eye elongation, a key factor in myopia progression in children. The company states these lenses generate double the optical signal compared to previous versions, building on the success of the original Essilor Stellest lens, which was the first spectacle lens authorized by the FDA for myopia management.
EssilorLuxottica also unveiled Essilor Stellest plano pair lenses, aimed at preventing myopia onset in children identified as being at risk. Clinical research indicates that delaying the onset of myopia by one year can offer benefits comparable to slowing its progression by over two years. These lenses were shown to reduce axial elongation in children wearing them for more than 30 hours per week.
The company also showcased the Essilor Stellest SmartGlasses. These glasses incorporate Essilor Stellest lenses and feature tracking capabilities to monitor wear time and compliance, which are critical for effective myopia management. The smart glasses are scheduled for release in Mainland China in the first quarter of 2026.
These developments represent EssilorLuxottica's ongoing commitment to addressing the rising global prevalence of myopia, projected to affect 740 million children by 2050. The company emphasizes its dedication to advancing evidence-based solutions for the eye health of future generations.
