EssilorLuxottica expands renewable energy use globally
EssilorLuxottica increased its global energy supply from renewable sources to 65% in 2025. The company aims to reduce its emissions in line with the Paris Agreement.

EssilorLuxottica has significantly increased its use of renewable energy across its global operations, reaching 65% of its total energy demand from renewable sources in 2025, a combination of on-site generation and procured electricity. This initiative is part of the company's broader environmental strategy.
The company has set science-based targets, validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and selected Scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030, compared to a 2022 baseline. These targets align with the Paris Agreement, and accelerating the deployment of renewable energy is a key priority.
Since 2013, EssilorLuxottica has installed over 115,000 photovoltaic panels at 40 sites in 19 countries. In 2025, new on-site renewable energy projects were deployed in five countries, boosting the installed capacity to over 62 MW. These installations generate approximately 31,450 MWh of renewable energy annually, contributing to an estimated reduction of 50,000 tCO₂e in emissions.
Beyond its manufacturing sites, EssilorLuxottica's global retail network of 18,000 stores is also contributing to sustainability goals. Efforts to improve energy efficiency in stores have led to a 15% reduction in energy use in pilot locations. The company is also leveraging AI and IoT technology to optimize energy consumption across its retail footprint.
