EssilorLuxottica Partners with TFOS to Advance Ocular Surface Health Standards

EssilorLuxottica has entered into a strategic partnership with the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS), an international non-profit organization focused on advancing research and education in ocular surface health. The company states the initiative reinforces its commitment to advancing eye health through science and education, while supporting improved patient care worldwide.

TFOS has, over the past twenty years, played a significant role in raising global awareness of external eye diseases, supporting research funding, and driving innovation in treatments, diagnostics, and clinical practices. EssilorLuxottica believes this collaboration further strengthens its leadership in the field and supports impactful research efforts and educational programs, such as the global TFOS Ambassador Program.

Ocular surface health, particularly dry eye disease, is increasingly recognized as a critical factor influencing clinical outcomes, especially in relation to eye surgery. It can affect pre-operative measurements, increase post-operative complications, and impact visual performance and patient experience. As part of its commitment, EssilorLuxottica is sponsoring the development of a new, evidence-based consensus report titled "Guidelines for Preparing the Ocular Surface for Eye Surgery." These guidelines are intended to harmonize perioperative care across a broad spectrum of surgical procedures.

Through this partnership, EssilorLuxottica's Espansione Group has also contributed to the recently released TFOS Dry Eye Workshop (DEWS) III Report, considered a global reference for understanding and managing dry eye disease and ocular surface care. EssilorLuxottica emphasizes its strengthened role in promoting patient-centered, evidence-based eye care solutions and supporting the global scientific ecosystem.
