EssilorLuxottica reports progress on plastic reduction and circular economy initiatives
On World Oceans Day 2026, EssilorLuxottica announced reductions in single-use plastic packaging and highlighted circular economy efforts, including new eyewear made from recycled fishing nets.

EssilorLuxottica, a global leader in eyewear, has reported on its sustainability commitments, focusing on reducing plastic packaging and advancing circular economy principles. The company marked World Oceans Day 2026 with a campaign reinforcing its stance on marine environmental protection.
Following a commitment made on World Oceans Day 2025 to minimize single-use plastics in packaging, EssilorLuxottica has achieved a 7% reduction in its business-to-consumer (B2C) streams and a 12% reduction in its business-to-business (B2B) streams. These reductions were realized through the substitution of plastic components with reusable, non-plastic, or recycled alternatives, alongside packaging design optimization and the removal of certain plastic elements in products and logistics. The company is on track towards its targets of a 60% reduction in B2C and 30% in B2B by 2030, using 2023 as a baseline.
Moreover, EssilorLuxottica's sunglasses brand Costa Del Mar, known for its long-standing commitment to ocean conservation, has launched new frames in its Untangled Collection. These frames are constructed using NetPlus material, derived from 75% recycled fishing nets, offering consumers a more sustainable product choice.
The group is also promoting product circularity through take-back programs for sunglasses and prescription glasses of any brand, available in a growing number of stores since 2023. Collected items are either donated for educational purposes or processed for material recovery.
