EssilorLuxottica announced on May 30, 2025, its agreement to acquire Optegra, an ophthalmology platform operating in the UK, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and the Netherlands. The acquisition includes over 70 eye hospitals and diagnostic facilities.
The move is described as a significant step in EssilorLuxottica's medical technology strategy, aiming to create a more comprehensive and digital patient journey. This encompasses services beyond frames and lenses, including AI-powered diagnostics and surgical interventions.
Optegra, which also operates under the Lexum and Iris brands, provides a range of ophthalmic treatments such as cataract and laser eye surgery, as well as treatment for diagnosed eye conditions. The company utilizes AI in pre- and post-operative care.
EssilorLuxottica executives Francesco Milleri and Paul du Saillant stated that the acquisition integrates diagnostics and surgical treatments, leveraging the company's distribution network and technological capabilities for a personalized patient experience.
The transaction is expected to close later in 2025, pending regulatory approvals. MidEuropa, Optegra's former owner, expressed satisfaction with Optegra's growth and digitalization under its ownership and believes EssilorLuxottica is the ideal partner for the company's future.
