European Consumers Distrust Chinese Routers

A new YouGov survey involving over 16,000 participants across 14 European countries indicates significant distrust towards router manufacturers from China, Russia, and the United States. The study explored European consumers' perceptions of router origins and trustworthiness.

According to the findings, 52 percent of European consumers expressed distrust towards Chinese router manufacturers. Russian manufacturers faced even greater skepticism (67 percent), and distrust was also notable towards US-based companies (38 percent). In contrast, only 11 percent of respondents reported distrust towards European router manufacturers.

Many consumers lack a clear understanding of where their routers are manufactured. For instance, only 14 percent of respondents knew that TP-Link is a Chinese manufacturer, with 16 percent mistakenly believing it to be European. This uncertainty extends to devices rented through internet service providers, where the origin is often overlooked.

The results highlight a need for greater transparency regarding the origin and manufacturing location of routers. Increasing consumer awareness about security concerns and a potential preference for domestic products could influence market trends going forward.
