An analysis reveals 18 European startups are advertising roles with base salaries exceeding €200,000 annually. These high-paying positions are concentrated in fields like artificial intelligence (AI), software engineering, and product management, reflecting the demand for specialized expertise.
The competition for top-tier employees is intense, as evidenced by the significant funding rounds these startups have secured. Companies such as the UK-based AI firm Wayve and French AI startup Mistral AI are leading the trend, with Wayve offering up to €240,000 and Mistral AI advertising roles in the €186,000-€240,000 range. These compensation levels aim to secure individuals with highly sought-after skills in cutting-edge technologies.
While salary is a key factor, European startups are also focusing on building strong company cultures and offering meaningful work to retain talent. The rapid growth and investment in the AI sector, in particular, are driving the need for senior talent and enabling these higher compensation offers. Startups examined in the research have often raised substantial capital, with Wayve reportedly securing over $6 billion and Mistral AI $435 million.
