European Venture Funding Reaches Four-Year High, Driven by AI
European startup funding reached $25 billion in Q3, marking the strongest quarter in four years. AI companies were a significant driver of this growth.

European startup funding hit $25 billion in the third quarter, its strongest performance in four years, with artificial intelligence companies spearheading the gains. This figure represents a 77% year-over-year increase in quarterly funding.
While the United Kingdom remained the top market for startup investment, Germany and France posted their strongest quarters since early 2021 and 2022. A substantial boost came from a $3.5 billion investment in Paris-based AI firm Mistral, the largest venture round ever for a European company.
AI startups accounted for over 75% of all European funding in the quarter, totaling $18.8 billion. Investments in physical technologies, including defense, data centers, energy, aerospace, and robotics, comprised approximately half of the region's capital infusion.
Later-stage funding rounds also saw significant growth, with $17.3 billion invested across 83 companies. Notable large rounds supported firms in health tech, autonomous drones, AI model optimization, and space technology.
Europe represented 16% of global venture capital in Q3. The region's ability to mobilize sufficient capital for deep-tech companies and meet demand for sovereign AI capabilities will be a key factor in its future development.
