Europe's Data Center Market Sees Strong Growth Fueled by AI Demand

Europe's data center market is poised for substantial growth, projected to expand from USD 58.77 billion in 2025 to USD 126.17 billion by 2034, with an anticipated compound annual growth rate of 8.86%. This expansion is driven by increasing demand for AI computing power, evolving digital sovereignty regulations, and favorable renewable energy siting.

The traditional data center hubs like Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Dublin are facing capacity constraints. This is pushing new development towards secondary cities and attracting consolidation efforts from major investment firms such as Brookfield and KKR. Major hyperscale operators, including AWS, Microsoft, Google, and Meta, are also announcing significant commitments across the continent.

The solutions segment, encompassing servers, storage, and power infrastructure, represented 66.8% of the market in 2025. Hyperscale data centers led in terms of type, accounting for 42.6% and expected to be the fastest-growing category. The services segment holds a 33.2% share and is also experiencing rapid expansion.

Germany led the regional market in 2025 with a 22.7% share, bolstered by Frankfurt's role as a major interconnection hub. A key industry trend is the demand for AI-ready capacity and advanced cooling solutions, with AI training clusters requiring rack densities exceeding 60 kW.

Recent strategic moves, such as Brookfield and Data4's over $20.7 billion investment in French AI infrastructure, highlight the sector's dynamism. Companies are also focusing on AI development, with new labs opening, and expanding physical capacity, as seen with Digital Realty's Frankfurt project. The drive for digital sovereignty within the EU and the rollout of 5G technology further support the growth of local data center operations.
