Europe's Largest 3D-Printed Housing Development Opens in Denmark
The Skovsporet student housing complex in Holstebro, Denmark, is now Europe's largest 3D-printed housing project, featuring 36 units across six buildings constructed from low-carbon concrete.

Holstebro, Denmark – The Skovsporet student housing complex, located near VIA University College in Holstebro, Denmark, has been completed and is now recognized as Europe's largest 3D-printed housing development. The project comprises 36 residential units spread across six low-rise buildings, all constructed using on-site 3D-printed, low-carbon concrete.
The 17,760-square-foot development aims to demonstrate the scalability of 3D printing in housing. Each private apartment is designed as a complete living space, including a sleeping area, bathroom, lounge, kitchen, and study space. Large windows and a sloped timber hybrid roof are incorporated to maximize natural light, while cork panels and glass add textural elements to the 3D-printed walls. The buildings are arranged around shared courtyards connected by pathways and landscaped gardens.
Developed by Saga Space Architects and MS+ in collaboration with contractor 3DCP Group, the project's intention was to create permanent social housing that adheres to Denmark's regulated framework for subsidized housing. The design emphasizes both independent living and community, with apartments clustered around shared outdoor spaces.
The concrete mixture used includes D.fab, which reportedly reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 84% compared to traditional concrete. The construction also prioritized environmental preservation, with 90% of existing trees on the site being retained. The successful completion of Skovsporet could serve as a precedent for future large-scale 3D-printed housing projects across Europe.
