Greek photographer Evangelia Kranioti has been awarded the 4th Prix de la Photo Madame Figaro Arles for her body of work titled "The living, the dead, and those who are at sea." The prize, supported by Kering through its Women In Motion initiative, was presented on Saturday, July 6, 2019, in Arles.
Kranioti's work utilizes photography and film to explore themes of exile, transit, immobility, destiny, and death, alongside gender and transformation. The jury, presided over by French actress Sandrine Kiberlain, recognized her "dreamlike" photographs for their empathy towards those on the margins of society.
Kering has partnered with the Prix de la Photo Madame Figaro Arles since 2016 via its Women In Motion program, which aims to promote women's contributions to arts and culture. The prize includes a grant of 10,000 euros, intended to sponsor new work by the laureate.
