EVgo to Build Tesla Superchargers Under License in US
Electric vehicle charging network EVgo announced it will begin deploying Tesla V4 Superchargers on its network in the US later this fall, operating under a license agreement. These chargers will support both NACS and CCS1 plugs.
EVgo, a major electric vehicle charging network operator, has announced plans to begin deploying Tesla V4 Superchargers across its US network by this fall. The deployment will occur under a licensing agreement with Tesla, allowing EVgo to manufacture and operate the chargers.
The V4 Superchargers are capable of delivering up to 500 kW of power at up to 1,000 V and will feature both the North American Charging Standard (NACS) and CCS1 plugs, accommodating a wider range of EVs. This move follows Tesla's broader initiative to open its Supercharger network, which began in 2023.
Crucially, the EVgo-operated Tesla Superchargers will be integrated into Tesla's in-car navigation systems and route planning. EVgo will retain ownership and operational responsibilities, including site management and pricing.
This development builds on Tesla's strategy of licensing its charging technology, with similar license-built Superchargers having already been deployed in the UK earlier in 2024. The move signifies further integration of charging standards and infrastructure across the EV market.
